Highlights of the Bougainville Women’s Federation Regional Annual General Meetings and Congress Meeting 2024.

The Bougainville Women’s Federation (BWF) successfully hosted its Congress Meeting from November 26–28, 2024, at Tsiroge, North Bougainville. Guided by the empowering theme Strongim Meri Bougenvil.

The Congress is a triennial event held every three years. The Regional Annual General Meetings and Congress Meeting are mandated and governed by the BWF Act 2020, a bill passed by the Bougainville House of Representatives in 2019.

• Day 1: Participants registered and engaged in regional meetings, fostering grassroots collaboration.

  
  

• Day 2: Leadership speeches from

  Hon. Amanda Masono BHOR Women Representative for North Bougainville Region & Minister for Personnel Management and Administrative Services and updates from partners (UN Women, DFAT, NCFR )and reports from the BWF President and regional leaders provided insights on progress and challenges.

  
  

• Day 3: Elections were held for the new BWF President and Treasurer emphasizing inclusivity and transparency. The event concluded with a keynote visit by UN Moderator appointed by the PNG Government and the Autonomous Bougainville Government Sir Jerry Mateparae.

  
  

The Congress reaffirmed the vital role of women in leadership and laid a foundation for future collaboration to strengthen Bougainville.
