BWF Hosts it's Strategic Communications Workshop

On the 8-9th of July, BWF Media Advisor David Redman, a VSA Volunteer from New Zealand, conducted a two day long workshop within the Bougainville Partnership premises at Hutjena. The workshop aimed at enhancing BWF’s communication strategy and strengthening the organization’s current communication practices. Attending the communication strategy workshop was a valuable experience for the participants to enhance their communication skills within and outside of their organization. Bougainville Partnership representatives also attended the workshop including the GEDSI Manager, GEDSI Officer and Communications Coordinator. BWF was pleased and honored to have Dr.Fiona Crockford, first Secretary of the Australian Development Assistance Office in Buka.


Participants engaged in interactive sessions, group discussions, and practical exercises aimed at honing their communication abilities. The workshop also delved into the importance of tailoring communication strategies to different audiences and contexts, emphasizing the significance of clear and concise messaging.

The workshop provided an opportunity to learn about various communication strategies, important key points included;

  1. BWF’s Strategic Context

  2. The BWF Strategic Plan (2023-2027) Outcome Areas 1-3; 1) Advocacy in governance

    2) Empowering women in decision making 3) Improving BWF as a representative body

  3. Stakeholder Mapping

  4. Current Communication Mechanisms and Future Opportunities

  5. Bougainville Partnership Publication Process (Procedures and requirements for publishing BP funded content). Led by BP Communication Coordinator, Alisson Ali.



It is essential that the learnings from the workshop be implemented and continuously evaluated to enhance the organization’s communication practices. Work on improving and strengthening missing communication links, utilizing digital platforms- leveraging digital platforms for communication and outreach can enhance the organization’s visibility and impact.


Overall, the communication strategy workshop proved to be an enriching experience, equipping participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to communicate effectively in various personal and professional settings.
